When I woke up early Friday morning to head to Golden Tote’s February tote shoot, I had no idea that it would be a momentous day. And lucky for you, I lived to tell the very important lesson I learned that day: never judge a blazer (or any other clothing item, really) by its pattern.
There was one particular piece that I did not initially vibe with this at
the shoot: the Pop Floral Blazer. Ironically, Lisa (my friend and Golden Tote’s lead stylist) mentioned that she could totally see me wearing it, but it was way too ’80s for my taste. But after Lisa worked her magic (as only a good stylist can do), my relationship with this floral blazer went from disdain to love … all in 10 minutes tops!
Here’s why I had a total change of heart: Lisa first and most importantly balanced the busyness of the Pop Floral Blazer with a pair of pale blue cropped Paige Denim jeans, which softened up the whole look and gave it a fresh, Springy feel. Next, to tie in the black in the blazer, she chose an easy black silk tank. Then, for the final touch, she added a pair of black suede Isabel Marant bow pumps, which gave a classic and feminine spin to the entire styling. To note: Lisa ditched any bold accessories, as they would have been a distraction against the loud blazer.
OK, so it wasn’t rocket science that went down on the photo shoot set, but it did remind me of something very important about fashion (and life, if you want to get deep): never judge a piece of clothing before styling it first. Something may be out of your comfort zone, but you can always make it your own with the right add-ons. Keep it classy, simple, and just unique enough to attract admiring stares.
